Runtimes · Unity

Animated game UI in Unity.

A Unity package with EggPlayer, a component that plays an .egg into a texture on a RawImage or the object's Renderer and forwards UI pointer events to its state machine.

In short

In Unity, add the com.egg.runtime package from disk, import your file as name.egg.bytes, and add the EggPlayer component to a RawImage or a Renderer. It plays the state machine into a Texture2D and forwards UI pointer events; the EggRuntime class sets inputs and view model values from C#.

  1. Package Manager › Add package from disk › choose the package.json of com.egg.runtime.
  2. Put the native library for each platform in Runtime/Plugins.
  3. Rename your file to name.egg.bytes so Unity imports it as a TextAsset.

  5. Set inputs and view model values from your scripts through its EggRuntime.

Questions

Can I use it for game HUDs?

Yes. Build the HUD in Ova Motion and set health, mana and score through view models from C#.

What can my code change at run time?

State machine inputs (booleans, numbers, triggers), view model properties bound in the file (text, numbers, colours, enums, pictures, lists), and pictures, sounds and fonts handed over by your app. Your code also reads the current state and the events the file reports.

Is the runtime free to use in commercial apps?

Yes. The runtimes are licensed MIT or Apache-2.0, and what you make in the editor is yours.
