Micro-interaction

A small animated response to one user action, like a toggle or a like button.

In short

A micro-interaction is a small, single-purpose animated response to one user action, such as a toggle flipping, a like button bursting or a download button turning into progress, that tells people what happened.

In more detail

  • Good micro-interactions are short (about 200 to 500 milliseconds), show the result of an action and never block the next one.
  • They have states: idle, hover, pressed, loading, done and error, which is why state machines fit them well.

In Ova Motion

In Ova Motion each state of the control is a state in the machine, the pointer listeners handle hover and press, and the app sets inputs such as loading or done.
